What To Do In The Area This Weekend

The weather forecast is for clear skies and moderate summertime temperatures this weekend. It’s a great time to get out and enjoy some of the area’s myriad activities. Fortunately, there’s plenty to do for both kids and grown-ups – from comedy to classical music to farmer's markets. Check out any of the events below:

FRIDAY, JULY 15

The Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Conn., will present comedian Martin Short, as part of the Benziger Family Winery Comedy & Theatre Series. There will be a wine tasting prior to the event beginning at 7 p.m.  Short will tickle your funny bone with his own zany kind of humor. Actor, writer, producer, Short’s resume is no lightweight, with credits such as “Saturday Night Live,” “The Three Amigos,” and “Father of the Bride.” Characters from throughout Short’s career will be brought back to life, including Franck Eggelhoffer from Father of the Bride I and II, Ned Nederlander of the Three Amigos and Hollywood Agent Jiminy Glick. Tickets are $105 for orchestra and $98 for the mezzanine. The Pound Ridge Library will hold its monthly Teen Night for grades 6-12. Teens have the library all to themselves. The night is filled with a variety of events, including gaming, tournaments, movies and crafts. The Teen Advisory Group meetings usually precede this program. The Pound Ridge Annual Neighbor to Neighbor Senior Picnic will be held at the Town Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with live music and dancing. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and ice cream will be served. Call (914) 764-8201 for info.

“William Tell” by Rossini will be performed at Caramoor in Katonah at 7:30 p.m. in the Venetian Theater by the Orchestra of St. Lukes with Will Crutchfield conducting. Order tickets online at www.caramoor.org or call (914) 232-1252.

SATURDAY, JULY 16

Caramoor will present “Star Spangled Classiscs!” – a family concert with Katie Kresek and Kaleidoscope at 1 p.m. at the Venetian Theater. At 8 p.m., also at the Venetian, Caramoor will present the Orchestra of St. Lukes featuring Sara Chang on violin and Douglas Boyd conducting. SUNDAY, JULY 17

There will be a Farmer's Market on Westchester Avenue in Pound Ridge’s Scotts Corner business district from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market will feature produce, jams and marmalades, specialty soaps and lotions, candles, specialty meats, Italian desserts, cookies and cupcakes, cheeses and breads.
