What To Do In Lewisboro And Pound Ridge This Weekend

There is a lot going on in the Pound Ridge-Lewisboro area this weekend. If festivals are your thing, there’s the Pound Ridge Harvest Festival featuring '90s rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket, Copia’s annual autumn harvest in South Salem with a petting zoo and pumpkin decorating, and DeCicco Family Market’s food festival at Orchard Square in Cross River. Art lovers will find several interesting exhibits opening this weekend as well.

Friday, Oct. 12

Fun with Music: 11 a.m. The Pound Ridge Library presents “Fun with Music” featuring Laura D’Amico for children ages 5 and younger. Registration is required. For more information, call the library at 914-764-5085. 271 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge.

John Jay Homecoming:  1:30 p.m. John Jay High School will hold its annual homecoming pep rally at the high school. The football team will host Pearl River on Saturday at 7 p.m. North Salem Road, Cross River

Sleeping With Wolves: 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. The Wolf Conservation Center’s nocturnal adventure experience gives visitors a chance to camp out overnight with the 25 wolves that call the center home. With all the howls and nature’s nighttime chatter, you’ll feel as if you’re camping under the stars with wild wolves. Cost is $300 per four-person tent. Singles are $150 but must bring their own tent. Admission includes a pizza party with the center’s ambassador wolves, an opportunity to behold critically endangered red and Mexican wolves, a movie under the stars, evening snacks and a light breakfast. Saturday, Oct. 13

Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Gossett Brothers Farm Market features fresh produce, meats and cheese, as well as seafood. The market is at 1202 Route 35, at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

South Salem Fire Department Open House: 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Meet the members of the fire department. There will be fire apparatus tours and live demonstrations, a fire safety trailer and a fire truck bounce house for the kids. The State Police will be on hand to inspect and help install child safety seats and the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps will perform blood pressure screenings. Food and refreshments will be provided. Route 35, South Salem.

DeCicco Food Festival: noon-4 p.m. DeCicco Family Market will hold a food festival in the parking lot of its store at Orchard Square. The event will feature dozens of vendors with cheese, meats, micro-brews, coffee and dairy products. There will be sampling tables and live demonstrations. North Salem Road, Cross River

Watercolor Exhibit at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation:  1 to 3 p.m. An exhibit of watercolor paintings by Goldens Bridge resident Ellen Brief will go on view during an opening reception at the WPA Gallery at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Titled “Landscapes and Florals,” the exhibit features paintings of landscapes and florals, many inspired by the natural beauty of the park. The exhibit opening coincides with the 35th anniversary celebration of the park’s Trailside Nature Museum. Second Annual Pound Ridge Harvest Festival: 2 to 6 p.m. This year’s festival will feature live music from Toad the Wet Sprocket as well as the Fox Lane Rock Ensemble. Other highlights of the festival, which is sponsored by the Pound Ridge Partnership, include Oktoberfest-style foods, the Magic Hat Beer Garden by MTK Tavern, a root beer garden, and games and activities for children sponsored by Scotts Corner Market. While admission to the event is free, all proceeds from the food and activities go to benefit the Pound Ridge Partnership’s Beautification Fund. It will be held in the Scotts Corners business district, Westchester Avenue, Pound Ridge.

Caramoor’s "Un Ballo in Maschera" Benefit: 7 p.m. to midnight. Caramoor will host "Un Ballo in Maschera," a masked ball, to benefit its historic Rosen House. Guests are encouraged to attend incognito as Caramoor recreates "Un Ballo in Maschera," inspired by the costume parties of its founders, Walter and Lucie Rosen. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served in the Spanish Courtyard followed by a reading by Tony Award-winner and Pound Ridge resident Zoe Caldwell. Arias from the opera will be performed by tenor Cameron Schutza accompanied by Caramoor's Director of Opera Will Crutchfield. Sunday, Oct. 14

Copia’s Annual Autumn Harvest: Noon to 4 p.m. Copia’s Home and Garden will host its second annual Autumn Harvest Fest featuring events that include a petting zoo, pick and paint a pumpkin, stuff a scarecrow as well as face painting and temporary tattoos. “Different Wavelengths” Artists Reception: 3 to 5 p.m. The Pound Ridge Library will hold an artists’ reception for its “Different Wavelengths” exhibit. The show consists of artwork in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, watercolor and mixed media, all done by Pound Ridge area artists.
