Fiction Writing Workshop: 7 - 8:30 p.m. Author Kim Kovach (“A Few Bad Decisions,” “The Adventures of Kitchawan Kenny”) returns to the Lewisboro Library with creative ways to explore character development, point of view, dialogue and setting to make your fiction writing come alive. Expand your writing skills with the use of challenging and creative in-class writing exercises and homework assignments. Registration is required for this adult program. Ten Steps to Detox Your Home and Garden: 7 p.m. A Lewisboro Library presentation by Dr. Gary Ginsberg, author of “What’s Toxic, What’s Not.” Ginsberg will discuss consumer and cleaning products, pesticides, and food and the concepts of sustainability. A toxicologist at the Connecticut Department of Public Health, he also teaches at the UConn Health Center and at Yale University. Ginsberg has appeared on the “Dr. Oz” TV show and has his own blog page on The Huffington Post. Registration is required. Call the library at 914-761-3857. Friday, Oct. 19
John Jay Cancer Awareness Fundraiser: 7 p.m. A concert fundraiser for cancer awareness will be held in the memory of Kyla Tillem, a junior at John Jay High School who died in April from a rare pediatric cancer. The concert will be held at the John Jay High School Theatre. Tickets will be sold this week in the John Jay High School cafeteria. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve tickets, which are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Proceeds will go to a scholarship in Tillem's name at The Ballet School of Stamford, a nonprofit dance school where Tillem was a student. The performers will be mostly John Jay students, and the ballet school will also perform a short piece.
