What To Do Around Lewisboro, Pound Ridge This Weekend

LEWISBORO/POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – There’s an eclectic agenda of events on tap for the Lewisboro/Pound Ridge area this weekend, from live music to stand-up comedy to the myriad educational programs at the Wolf Conservation Center.

Friday, Feb. 12

Fun with Music: 11 a.m. The Pound Ridge Library presents “Fun with Music” featuring Laura D’Amico for children ages 5 and under. Registration is required. For more information, call the library at 914-764-5085. 271 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge

Sci-Fi Book Group: 7-8 p.m. The Pound Ridge Library Sci-Fi Book Group will meet to discuss “Childhood’s End” by Arthur C. Clarke. The secondary book that will also be discussed is “Pathfinder” by Orson Scott Card. This event is for teens in grades 10-12. Snacks will be served. Registration is required. Fox Lane High School Chamber Orchestra: 7 p.m. The Fox Lane Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert at the Mount Kisco Presbyterian Church with a show entitled, “Basically Baroque.” Admission is free with a bag or box of rice to donate to the Interfaith Food Pantry. A meet-the-artists reception will follow immediately after the show. 605 Millwood Road, Mount Kisco

Ladies of Laughter Funny & Fabulous Tour:  8 p.m. The Ridgefield Playhouse presents the Ladies of Laughter featuring Jane Condon, Leighann Lord and Robin Fox. This is a comedy contest tour made up of some of the funniest women in comedy today that has launched the careers of countless women, including Greenwich Conn. native Condon, Tickets are $36. Saturday, Feb. 23

Gossett Brothers Farm Market: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Gossett Brothers Farm Market features fresh produce, meats and cheese, as well as seafood. The market is at 1202 Route 35, at Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem.

Arctic Fest: Wings and Wolves: 2-3:30 p.m. This Wolf Conservation Center event will allow guests to learn about the harsh habitat that some very special animals call home. Master falconer, Brian Bradley of Skyhunters in Flight, will present his feathered ambassadors that call the high arctic home and will do a flight demonstration, too. Guests will also visit resident arctic gray wolf Atka and the WCC’s other ambassador wolves, Zephyr and Alawa as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Guests will enjoy hot beverages in our woodstove-heated classroom. Space is limited. Dress for cold weather. Pre-registration is required and the fee is $20 per person. Make Your Home Energy Efficient: 4 p.m.  Join the Lewisboro Library for an informational presentation featuring energy expert Norm Jen of EnergizeNY. He will help homeowners understand how their homes leak energy, how they can fix them, and how to take advantage of state incentives to pay for it. Those who would like help in applying for a free comprehensive home-energy assessment should come to the library at 3 p.m. for assistance in filling out your application. Bring a copy of your most recent electric bill and a copy of your heating fuel bills for the past 12 to 24 months. Snow Moon Wolf Walk: 6 p.m. Celebrate February’s full moon, “the Snow Moon,” with the Wolf Conservation Center’s snow-loving wolves. While keeping warm by the WCC’s outdoor fire pit, guests will enjoy warm drinks, sugary treats and likely the symphony of howls from the 25 wolves that call the WCC home. Guests will learn about the history of wolves in the United States, the importance of wolves in a healthy ecosystem and the efforts to save these creatures for future generations. Guests then take will take a short moonlit walk to visit ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa and Zephyr.  Bring flashlights and dress for the cold weather. Music at North Star: 6:30 p.m. Dennis Collins and Mike DiMeo perform. Collins is seen regularly singing background on "Late Night With David Letterman," and "Saturday Night Live" and has sung with artists such as Roberta Flack, Sting, Celine Dion and Sheryl Crow. DiMeo plays keyboards for Johnny Winter and many others.
