Westchester Nature Center Events Countywide Friday Through Sunday

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Nature centers throughout Westchester County have announced their event schedules for the weekend of Feb. 20.

On Friday, the Croton Point Nature Center at Croton Point Park will host a pot luck dinner for the Riverlovers organization at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome and the film “The Car of the Future” will be screened.

Saturday will see the Cranberry Lake Preserve in North White Plains host an indoor nature art day at 1 p.m., where kids learn to make art from natural objects. There's a fee of $3 per child, and more information is available at (914) 428-1005.

The Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers has a “Terrariums for Everyone” event at 2 p.m. Adults can make an air plant terrarium while kids create mini-terrarium necklaces. Fees are $15 for adults and $5 for children. More information is available at (914) 968-5851.

The Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation will host an American Indian sugaring event at 2 p.m. Information can be found by calling (914) 864-7322.

On Sunday,  the Cranberry Lake Preserve will host a hydroponics event at 1 p.m., as participants are taught different methods of growing plants without soil using minerals in water.

The Lasdon Park Arboretum in Katonah will host “Starting Garden Seeds Indoors” at 2 p.m., as the timing and techniques for starting garden seeds indoors are taught to participants. The event is free, but pre-registration is required at (914) 864-7264.

The Marshlands Conservancy in Rye will host a “Nature in Winter: Outdoor Detectives” event at 2 p.m., as participants search for hidden signs of the season. Call (914) 835-4466 for more information.
