Things To Do In The Area This Weekend

The clock is ticking and summer is winding down. But there’s still time to take advantage if you are looking for something to do this weekend. There are farmers markets and antique shows, as well as plenty of musical performances from Gershwin to jazz. Check out some of these events:

FRIDAY, Aug. 5

The Ridgefield Theater will present “Crazy For You,” the story of Bobby Child, a well-to do 1930s playboy, whose dream in life is to dance. It's a high energy comedy which includes mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music accompanied by a live professional orchestra.

Memorable Gershwin tunes include "I Can't Be Bothered Now,” "Bidin' My Time,” "I Got Rhythm," "Naughty Baby," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "But Not for Me,""Nice Work if You Can Get It," "Embraceable You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me." Curtain is 8 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (203) 364.4455. Prices are $30 for the orchestra and $25 for the mezzanine: $25.

The Caramoor Jazz Festival gets underway in the Spanish Courtyard at 8 p.m. featuring the Renee Rosnes Quartet. Tickets are $30 and $40. Order tickets online at www.caramoor.org or call (914) 232-1252.

SATURDAY, Aug. 6

Caramoor’s Jazz Festival continues at the Venetian Theater. The program begins at 3 p.m. with Juan Carlos Formell’s Johnny’s Dream Club-Sonidos Latinos. James Farm, featuring Joshua Redman on sax, goes on at 4:15 p.m., Lucky Peterson at 5:30 p.m. and Christian McBride Big Band takes the stage at 8 p.m. Just For Jazz: Great Performances will grill chicken, ribs, burgers and hot dogs on the Picnic Lawns. Gossetts Farm Market at Gossett Brother’s Nursery, Route 35 South Salem, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come find the best locally grown and produced foods and handcrafts, see your neighbors, visit the greenhouse, get supplies for all your houseplants and see the amazing antique store. More than 14 vendors. Organic produce, grass-fed meats, local cheese and more.  This is a kid-friendly market.

The Ridgefield Playhouse will present an encore performance of “Crazy For You.” Tickets are available by calling (203) 364.4455. Curtain on this night is 7:30 p.m. Prices are $30 for the orchestra and $25 for the mezzanine: $25.

The 16th annual “Something For Everyone” Antiques & Treasure Sale will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Keeler Tavern Museum, 132 South Main St. in Ridgefield, Conn. Admission and parking is free.  Call (203) 438-5485 for more information or e-mail info@keelertavernmuseum.org . There will be an extensive collection of Civil War items commemorating the 150th anniversary of the war.

SUNDAY, Aug. 7

Caramoor Jazz Festival continues at the Venetian Theater: Edmar Castaneda Quartet-Sonidos Latinos, 1 p.m.; Fred Hersh/Nico Gori Duo, 2:15 p.m.; Robert Glasper Trio, 3:30 p.m.; John Scofield Quartet, 5 p.m.;  Jason Moran and The Bandwagon, 6:30 p.m. Just For Jazz: Great Performances will grill chicken, ribs, burgers and hot dogs on the Picnic Lawns. Farmers Market on Westchester Avenue in Scotts Corners, Pound Ridge, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will feature jams and chutneys, soaps and lotions, breads and muffins, produce, meats such as Black Angus beef, smoked duck breast and fresh sausage, Italian desserts, cheeses and seasonal fruit pies.
