Professor Richard Brettell of the University of Texas at Dallas will give the sixth DVD seminar, titled “The Louvre,” from 1-3 p.m. on Thursdays from May 8-22. All the seminars will be held at the Schaffner Room of the Pound Ridge Library at 271 Westchester Ave. Light refreshments will be served. The seminars are free and open to the public, but registration is recommended.

"Following the very successful presentation of its fifth college-level seminar, The Pound Ridge Library is continuing a new educational concept: a series of DVD college-level seminars from The Teaching Co./Great Courses on a wide variety of subjects, presented by outstanding scholars from many of the major colleges and universities in the United States," according to a press release.

The program, which library representatives said was the first of its kind in this country, is designed to provide a collegial, small-group setting for courses “you didn’t get a chance to take at college, but wanted to,” according to the release. The subject matter of the seminars is quite extensive and delves into such topics as art, history, religion, science and linguistics. This series of seminars, designed and moderated by Lawrence Brotmann of Pound Ridge, consists of a series of four 30-minute lectures, according to the release.

Subsequent courses will include, among others: “Life in the American Colonies Before 1776”; “The Secret Life of Words”; “The Medieval World”; “Comparative Religion”; “Lost Worlds of South America"; and “The National Gallery of Art in London.”

All the seminars will be held at the Pound Ridge Library, Schaffner Room. Light refreshments will be served. The seminars are free and open to the public, but registration is recommended.

To register, residents are asked to contact the library by phone at 764-5085 or through email at hhml@wlsmail.org.
