The first ceremony will take place in Golden’s Bridge and the second ceremony will take place in South Salem. Both ceremonies are open to the public. By joining in these observances, you will be honoring those who served the country in both World Wars and in past and present conflicts.
Lee Hughes, a retired U.S. Air Force major, will be the keynote speaker for both ceremonies.
During a 20-year career, from 1960 to 1980, Hughes served in Germany, Vietnam, Korea, and Taiwan. Duties included photographic intelligence, recruiting operations, and combat crew commander, Titan II intercontinental ballistic missiles. He currently lives in Florida and will be visiting Lewisboro for the Memorial Day weekend.
In addition, the Rev. Michael Barry of the Stevens Memorial Church giving the Invocation and Benediction; Annamarie Sant will be singing the National Anthem; Paul Persichette will be performing "Taps;"
In Golden's Bridge, at 10:45 a.m., assembly will begin at the train station parking lot. A bicycle parade is encouraged with decorated bicycles. At 11 a.m., the service shall begin. Additional speakers include Dr. Leslie Simon, commandant - American Legion Post 1734. The ceremony is made possible by the John B. Winter, Jr., American Legion Post 1734. Winter, Jr., was killed in the service of his country in 1944 during the Battle of The Bulge.
In South Salem, the parade assembles at Lake Shore Drive (south end), Truesdale Lake at 11:45 a.m. and the parade kicks off at 12:15 p.m. After the parade, the service shall begin. "Amazing Grace" will be performed by the Mount Kisco Scottish Pipes & Drums, and the laying of the wreaths will be conducted by the Lewisboro Scouts.
There will be a "National Moment of Remembrance" at 3 p.m. The “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed in December 2000, which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “to voluntarily and informally observe, in their own way, a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.'”
