Covid-19: Fort Lee Shuts Down Senior Citizen Center

The Fort Lee Senior Center will be closed for two weeks, beginning Thursday, as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus, officials said Wednesday.

Arrangements have been made with the “Meals on Wheels” program sponsored by Bergen County to provide qualified seniors with lunch during the closure period, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich said.

"This measure is strictly preemptive and is not in response to any presumptive or additional confirmed cases of individuals in the Borough of Fort Lee contracting COVID-19," Sokolich said.

Fort Lee will still provide free shuttle bus service to its senior citizens, he said.

The closure will allow the Borough of Fort Lee to completely sanitize all senior citizen facilities, and, in particular, the Senior Citizen Center (formerly known as the Richard and Catherine Nest Adult Activity Center) on Main Street, the mayor said.

Sokolich urged residents to remain calm and to periodically check Fort Lee’s website (www.fortleenj.org) for additional notices and closures.
