Herman was born in Norwalk on Nov. 23, 1925 to Daniel and Bertha Herman, graduating from Norwalk High School and serving in the US Army during World War II.
After his wartime service, he graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a degree in history and joined the Connecticut National Guard, serving for 37 years and retiring as Army Brigadier General.
As a civilian, Herman worked in purchasing and retired as Director of Procurement from Chemtex, Inc. in New York City.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Daniel and William, and an infant son.
Herman is survived by wife Madeline, two daughters, Ilse, and Christine Doran and her husband Richard, and two grandchildren.
Services are on Tuesday, with visiting at 10:30 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m., at the Magner Funeral Home, located at 12 Mott Avee. in Norwalk.
Interment with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.
