The Disco Soup event at The Heights in South Salem on Saturday, April 29, is not your ordinary dance party. Instead, it's a cooking event sponsored by Slow Food Metro North for families, friends, and the general public that includes soup making, disco dancing, learning and eating.

The group is joining with youth and international organizations around the globe to spread awareness about food waste and learn how to "fill bellies, not bins."

Slow Food Metro North Chairman Donna Simons, founder of Pound Ridge Organics, will be doing a food preservation demo and there will be a screening of the film “Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story.”

The event, which runs from noon to 3 p.m., is open to the public and costs $10 for general admission and $8 for students. Children five and under are free.
