"As we sent our kids back to school this month, we could not help but think of the 16 million children in this country who are food insecure" said bake sale organizers. "For these children, school meals programs are critical to their health, well being and their future.

"According to Share Our Strength, 62 percent of America's teachers regularly see kids who come to school hungry because they aren't getting enough food at home. These are staggering statistics and the reason why The Great Chappaqua Bake Sale continues, year after year, to help mobilize this incredibly generous community of supporters to take a stand against childhood hunger."

Over the past seven years, the sale has helped connect hungry kids with more than 1 million meals.

"We are so grateful to all of you who continue to dedicate time, baked goods and support to such a crucial cause," organizers continued. "But there is more work to be done, and every dollar we donate can connect a child with up to 10 healthy meals."

The Great Chappaqua Bake Sale is recognized each year by Share Our Strength as a "Bake Sale Rock Star" and has been the highest-grossing team for the last two years -- which earned it $25,000 matching donations from Domino Sugar.

In addition to buying tasty treats on Saturday, you can also buy raffle tickets either online or in person -- which include prize packages including sports tickets, Broadway tickets and more -- or donate directly. You don't need to be present Saturday to win.

The book festival and bake sale both run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bell School field. For more information on the festival, visit its Facebook page, and click here for a list of the authors and illustrators who will attend.
