WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A surge in job openings in the U.S. could create upward movement in wages, according to The Wall Street Journal.

There were 5.4 million job openings nationwide in April, up from 5.1 million in March. As the supply of unemployed workers continues to dwindle, employers looking to fill these openings will have to increase wages in an effort to lure currently employed workers to their respective firms, The Wall Street Journal reported.
