Mount Kisco Target A Hot Spot For Last-Minute Shoppers

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – A Saturday morning in Mount Kisco’s Target store three days before Christmas looks a lot like what one might imagine the North Pole would look like around this time of year: busy, with a sense of urgency — and no available parking.

Many customers were scrambling to find last-minute gifts, with the majority of them wandering in either the toys or electronics department.

“Nothing like waiting until the last minute,” said Chappaqua resident Brent Pope, who was trying to make the decision between a Bose sound station or headphones. “The one I came for is sold out, so now I have to get a little creative.”

Gregg Self, a Target mobile associate, was ready for any questions customers might have.

“This is certainly the time when things start to get extremely hectic,” said Self. “It’s when everyone is getting that last gift.”

Self said his hottest sellers have been the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy III, both of which the store has managed to keep in stock.

“This day in age, high-end smart phones are an extremely popular gift to get someone.”

While electronics might satisfy the wish lists for teenagers and adults, the toy department still holds responsibility for children’s gifts.

“Oh, it’s busy,” said Target toy team member Veronica Ruaz. “This year's hot items are the Furby and the Easy Bake Oven, which we cannot keep on the shelves.”

While most customers were looking for just one or two last-minute items, some still had an entire list to track down. For Florida residents Robert and Marie Boyd, that was the case.

“We’re up here visiting for our kids and grandkids, who live in Mount Kisco,” said Robert. “And we don’t know a thing about what’s going on. But at least we have a list.”

Now that’s the Christmas spirit.
