LEWISBORO, N.Y. – The Lewisboro Chamber of Commerce has appointed a new president.
The chamber’s board of directors has named former Vice President Katherine Dawtry-Monteleone to fill the remaining term of longtime President Dr. Les Simon.
Simon stepped down from the post last month while battling an illness, but remains on the board. Dawtry-Monteleone will fill the post until elections are conducted in January.
“It’s in our bylaws that if the president resigns, the board can appoint the vice president to fill the position until the next general election, which is in January,” she said. “Anybody on the board can run.”
Dawtry-Monteleone lives in Goldens Bridge and is the owner and operator of While Away Dog Walking and Your House Check. She said she’s reaching out to town officials in an effort to get them to work in conjunction with the chamber to promote area business.
“The board has been restructured over the past few months and is looking forward to a very active 2013,” she said. “We are planning to hold a sidewalk sale for each hamlet to help encourage local shopping with our own small businesses. Since we are a town without a central business district, we think doing this on a hamlet-by-hamlet basis is the best approach. We also have other initiatives in the planning stages.”
Other chamber board members include Chuck Tator, board vice president and owner of Tator’s Garage of South Salem, Peter Cirpriano of Copia Home and Garden, Richard Giaccio of Pure Payments, Wes Beal of Padgett Business Services, Sam Dodge of Dodge and Associates and associate board member Ted Strauss of Ted Strauss Web Sites.
Dawtry-Monteleone said she would like to see local businesses become more aware of the chamber, and she encourages them to join. Interested individuals can learn about the chamber by visiting lewisborochamber.com .
“You can download an application,” she said. “Dues are quite reasonable and networking benefits abound.” Those interested in joining also can call Dawtry-Monteleone at 914-330-3638 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org .
The Lewisboro Chamber of Commerce is planning its next networking event at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at Treat Frozen Yogurt behind DeCicco Family Market in the Orchard Square shopping center in Cross River. The event will provide an opportunity to meet other local business owners in a warm and friendly setting.
“It’s good to organize and promote local business with these types of events, as well as local advertising,” Tator said. “We are a town that is quite spread out and we don’t even know about many of the businesses and services that are available right here in town, especially those not located on our major roads. We need to learn more.”
Dawtry-Monteleone said the revamped chamber wants to establish Lewisboro as a business-friendly town.
”The primary message the newly revitalized and reorganized chamber wants to convey is that Lewisboro can be a vital business community that fosters and array of small independent businesses and services,” she said. “The chamber wants to work hard to create a platform for these businesses, help them work together, and keep residents of our area using businesses and services that are right here.”
